When I think of Connecticut there are many things that come to mind; fall foliage, historical landmarks, the shoreline, sailboats, quaint little towns, and covered bridges to name a few. When I think of a classic Connecticut wedding Chris and Cristina’s is exactly what I envision. Essex is the perfect setting for a beautiful New England wedding with its gorgeous scenery and views of the Connecticut River, numerous historic sites and laid back atmosphere. It gave a nice look and feel to this wedding but also matched nicely to Chris and Cristina’s laid back personalities. The clouds that day only added to the serenity and relaxation that accompanied their special day to become husband and wife.
There were a lot of special moments and touches throughout the day, including Chris’s gift to Cristina (a pair of Jimmy Choo shoes), a pair of earrings that had ties to Cristina’s grandmother (which her father lovingly watched her put on), the cutest flower girls who kept anxious watch at the church window for Cristina’s limo, and even a surprise boat ride to the reception arranged for them by Cristina’s parents. They had even scouted out the perfect location to have their bride and groom photos taken…a gorgeous real estate property nestled right along the river with an incredible windmill in the backyard. After we were done with private photo sessions of the bride and groom and wedding party, it was all aboard the boat to the reception which was held at the recently rebuilt and renovated Connecticut River Museum. This was actually the first wedding held at this venue since a fire damaged a good portion of their building last summer and it could not have gone better. The location is perfect, the local artifacts and decor are quaint, and the staff are absolutely terrific!
On the boat ride over to the River Museum, Cristina’s dad found a Jack Sparrow hat complete with dreadlocks that he proceeded to wear into the harbor and into a significant portion of the reception. This was merely a preview of the amount of fun that would be had by all for the remainder of the evening. We rocked the night away to the sounds of the amazingly talented The La Blanc Brothers Band while we enjoyed the delicious eats of Coastal Gourmet.
Chris and Cristina, it was an immense honor and privilege to be guests at your wedding. We wish you all of the best as you start your new life as husband and wife. May you continue to fill your lives with the same laughter, sentimentality, and laid back relaxation that so encapsulated your wedding day.
On a side note, when we meet with potential clients for an initial consultation, one of the most common questions asked is, “What if something happens to one of you?” We are always glad to brag about the other awesome photographers in Connecticut who we network and partner with, but deep down we always hope we would never have to use them. This was the first time we had to lean on our friends and fellow photographers as Rachel was fresh off of unexpected knee surgery and was still not 100%. Special thanks to Sarah Lehberger from Afterglow Photos for helping us out. It was such a blast to work with you and you were a huge help in making sure that no moment went uncaptured at this wedding.
